A Big Thank You to the New Horizons for Seniors Program

The Smithers Men's Shed is thrilled to share some exciting news that marks a major step forward in our mission to support seniors and strengthen our community. Thanks to the generous support of the New Horizons for Seniors Program, we’ve been able to launch a new CNC (Computer Numerical Control) program.

This isn’t just about technology. It’s about safety, visibility, and peace of mind.

Reflective House Number Signs: A Life-Saving Initiative

With our new CNC capabilities, we’re now able to produce reflective house number signs—a simple yet powerful tool that can help first responders locate homes more quickly and accurately at night. In rural and semi-rural areas like ours, visibility can be a real challenge, especially in emergencies. These signs will ensure that every second counts when help is on the way.

This project is especially close to our hearts because it directly benefits seniors living independently, many of whom face increased risks during medical emergencies or natural disasters. By improving address visibility, we’re helping to create a safer environment for everyone.

Gratitude That Shines Bright

We extend our deepest thanks to the New Horizons for Seniors Program for believing in our vision and providing the funding that made this possible. Their support empowers grassroots organizations like ours to take action, innovate, and care for our communities in tangible ways.

To our members, volunteers, and supporters—thank you for your continued dedication. And to the seniors of Smithers and beyond: we see you, we value you, and we’re working hard to make sure your homes are easier to find when it matters most.

Stay tuned for updates as we roll out this initiative across the region. If you or someone you know could benefit from a reflective house number sign, reach out—we’re here to help.

With gratitude,
The Smithers Men's Shed Team
